1 = Poor 2 = Fair 3 = Good 4 = Excellent T.S. Eliot
http://www.hmco.com/college/english/heath/lit_links2.html Organized and informative, this Eliot site offers excellent
insights into themes, poetic techniques, and Eliot himself. Though no lesson plans exist, teachers will enjoy the suggestions for discussion topics, assistance with reading Eliot's poems, and the hot links to
other authors such as Frost and William Carlos Williams. Students will need to persevere beyond the site's offerings for research, but an ambitious student will find a good start here. The site is navigable
and provides fine links. Overall Rating: 4 Thomas Stearns Eliot: American Poet http://www2.lucidcafe.com/lucidcafe/library/95sep/eliot.html
Rated fair to good by the evaluators, this site presents a sketchy biography of the poet' however, the two hot links
present a timeline, bibliography of Eliot's works, and other useful information, including a virtual realistic presentation of an artist's conception of "The Wasteland." Teachers will find worthwhile
material but no lesson plans. Students will perhaps enjoy the link for "The Wasteland." The site is easy to use. Overall Rating: 3
Thomas Stearns Eliot
http://www.island-of-freedom.com/ELIOT.HTM This site earned good or excellent scores, particularly for its useful
links. Teachers may find "this well-developed and attractive site" especially helpful in its biographical sketch, its look at Eliot as a poet and playwright, and its "exceptional" e-text of
"The Wasteland." Students will likely find the site beneficial for its focus on well-known Eliot works. The site earns praise, too, for its navigability. Overall Rating: 4
TSEbase http://web.missouri.edu/~tselist/cgi/tsebase.cgi This site provides a
concordance for Eliot's poems, allowing searches for words and phrases, such as "the end of all our exploring" or "in the room the women come and go." Teachers will not benefit from any lesson
plans here, but the site may prove useful for finding a key passage quickly. Students may see little purpose in such a site beyond a word game of sorts. The site is easy to use. Overall Rating: 2
Great Books Online http://www.bartleby.com
This site lacks useful links to Eliot data, but it does provide many Eliot works and a table of contents for easy searching or
reading. The Great Books Online site does allow readers to check works by Many others, such as Frost, Dickinson, Fitzgerald, and Hardy. It is easy to use and reasonably quick to access.
Overall Rating: 2
World Authors Profile: T.S. Eliot http://www.hwwilson.com/print/eliot.html
This site has good biographical
information on Eliot, but it features no teacher resources or student resources worth noting. It is not flashy and it loads rather slowly. Overall Rating: 2 |
