This impressive, well-designed site on Ralph Waldo Emerson offers an excellent bibliography of his works, a listing of twenty of his poems by theme and topic, and a series of study questions ranging in degree of difficulty over a large spectrum of his works.  Titles listed in the bibliography are followed by a brief summary, "oftentimes followed by critical comments by Emerson contemporaries."  The poetry page lists the "ten most popular" and the "ten most obscure" Emersonian poems.  One plus is an "appropriate MLA citation" assuring that "students will have at least one correct entry on their Works Cited page!"  This site is "highly recommended for both students and teachers for its ease of use and its variety."

The Ralph Waldo Emerson section of the University of Michigan's American Verse Project contains the complete collection of his poetry.  Notes and commentary accompany most of the poems and the site is introduced by a wonderful forty-one page biography of Emerson.  Although it is "not visually appealing, it is entrancing because of the information provided."  Various searches are offered and the site is easy to navigate.  This is a fine resource "for advanced high school students and teachers who are going in depth with Emerson's poetry."

"This is an excellent site for the serious researcher of Emerson and students of American literature."

If you are looking for biographical or critical information on Ralph Waldo Emerson, try elsewhere.  However, if you are looking for copies of Emerson's more well-known writings, then this is an easily accessible source.  Ten works by Emerson, including Nature, The American Scholar, Representative Men, and The Conduct of Life, are available in a rather unattractive, but complete format.  One useful feature is a listing of titles, "date of publication or address, and a brief summary or comment by...the site's administrator."
