Teaching suggestions: This book is a great choice for a unit on culture/mythology/heritage. It can be used as one of a number of novel circle selections with comparison/contrast essays. It also lays a nice foundation for student exploration of personal cultural heritage as the novel explores tribal views of God/spiritual beings, good and evil, the afterlife, etc.
