Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa I. Biography In 1912 Clarence Andrews was born in Waterloo, Iowa. He was raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from high school there in 1930. From 1930-1949 he worked as an office machine salesman and mechanic in Cedar Rapids, Sioux City, Mason City, Ottumwa and Sheldon. He married his wife Ollie, who is also a lifelong Iowan, and had three children. In 1949 Andrews began going to Sheldon Junior College. The next year he started attending the University of Iowa. At Iowa he was a part of the Writer's Workshop. In 1963 he was awarded his Ph.D. from Iowa. He has taught at the University of Iowa in the English Department and the School of Journalism. In 1979 Andrews and his wife formed the Midwest Heritage Publishing Company to promote Iowa and Midwest literature. In 1982 Andrews was awarded the Mid-America Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Study of Midwestern Literature.
