Hot Springs County High School in Wyoming I. Biography Margaret Coel was born a fourth generation Coloradan on October II, 1937. She was born in Denver, Colorado and now lives in Boulder, Colorado. She was married to George Coel on July 22, 1961. They had three kids: William (deceased), Kristen and Lisa. She enjoys being outdoors and spends as many days as possibly enjoying the fresh air. She skis, hikes, bikes, and plays competitive tennis. One of her hobbies is to travel. Margaret Coel went to Marquette University and graduated in 1960 with a B.A. She did graduate work at the University of Colorado and attended Oxford University. She worked at the Westminster Journal in Westminster, Colorado, as a reporter from 1960-1961. She then worked as a feature writer for the Boulder Daily Camera in Boulder, Colorado from 1972 - 1975. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Historic Boulder and is also a guest lecturer for numerous groups and organizations. Some of the groups and organizations include: The Denver Museum of Natural History, The Colorado State Historical Society and The National Convention of Questers. Margaret Coel is a member of many different organizations. Some of the organizations that she belongs to are: The Western Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America. She is also a member of The Colorado Authors League, was on the Board of Directors from 1987-1992, and was president from 1990-1991. She has earned many awards and honors as a writer. Some of them include: Fellow at Bread Loaf Writers Conference (1981); Best Nonfiction Book of the Year Award, National Association of Press Women (1981) for Chief Left Hand ; Top Hand Award for Best Nonfiction Book by a Colorado Author, Colorado Authors League (1986) for Goin' Railroading. Many of her books are either mystery novels set in the West or stories telling about some great event that happened a long time ago. She has said that she gets many of her ideas for novels just from reading the paper every day. II.
