Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, Texas I. Biography Deborah Crombie was born, raised, and educated in Texas. She graduated from Richardson High School in Richardson, Texas, and attended Austin College. From there, Crombie earned a degree in biology, but her literary calling moved her to pursue a writer's profession. After graduation, Crombie began to live and work in both England and Scotland. While there, she wrote her first Superintendent Duncan Kincaid/Sergeant Gemma James novel, A Share in Death. A Share in Death earned Macavity and Agatha nominations for Best First Novel in 1993. Rave reviews have followed all of her works. However, her fifth published work, Dreaming of Bones, is considered her best. Crombie's novels have been published in Germany, Japan, Italy, and the United Kingdom, in addition to the United States. Frequently, people make the mistake of believing that she lives in England because of her in-depth research and knowledge about everyday English life. She is so well respected that St. Hilda's College, Oxford asked her to speak. Today she lives in McKinney, Texas, with her husband, a thirteen-year-old daughter, four cats and a cocker spaniel. II. Literary Works A Share in Death (1993) This essay was submitted by a student of Sheryl Row, a teacher at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas in Texas. |
