I. Biography Edgar Lawrence Doctorow was born in New York City on January 6, 1931. Doctorow attended the Bronx High School of Science, received a B.A. with Honors in 1952
from Kenyon College, and continued his education at Columbia University. 1959 - Joined editorial staff of New American Library.
1964 - Became editor-in-chief at Dial Press. He has taught at several universities including: Sarah Lawrence University, Princeton University, and New York University at which he
holds the Glucksman Chair in American Letters. 1984 - Named a member of the American Academy and National Institute of Arts and Letters. E.L. Doctorow lives and works in New York, New York where he teaches at New York
