Campbell County High School, Gillette, Wyoming I. Biography Michael met his wife through their sharing of the love of archaeology. They met at an archaeology conference in 1981 and married in 1982. They live near the Wind River Mountains near Thermopolis, Wyoming. They hunt wild game, mostly antelope, to provide their meat supply. II. Professional Life Michael Gear and his wife, Kathleen, are archaeologists. Many of their books are about the remains left from the North American Indians. Since they don't totally know all the facts of what was left from before, their books are part fact and part assumption. These books deal with the birth, life, death, and love in a wonderful and brutal way. Michael and Kathleen have been working on a series of ten books. Some of these include: People of the River and People of the Mist. They are both also members of the Wyoming Writers, Inc. This site is at: http://www.wyowriters.org
Many of the book reviews on Michael Gear's books tell of the wonderful Indian lore and legend found in his books. III. Regional Influences
What is left of the Indians is what influences these writers to share about the lives of these people. They do extensive research before writing each book and try to make the stories as factual yet entertaining as they can. IV. Literary Works The Artifact Starstrike
Books Co-Authored with Kathleen Gear: The Visitant V. Book Review People of the River is about the war fare and the spiritual journeys among an ancient
civilization known as the Mound Builders. These people are from the Mississippi Valley. When a war chief and his people have lost all hope in everything a young girl helps revive their beliefs. People of the Silence
is the eighth novel in the series. It is about the Anasazi's that lived in the Four Corners region of the Southwest. This tale tells of a story based mostly on
survival. This civilization advanced in to the early technology of astronomers, architects, traders, and master road builders. However, when it was at it's peak, it suddenly collapsed
from within. Their religion and religious traditions corrupted in order to satisfy their own personal needs. This could also be a factor of what crushed these people.
All in all, Michael Gear is a well-respected author with many good titles in his name. His books are based on the truth but made interesting by the story he puts in to them. VI. References
