I. Biography Lois Lowry was born on March 20th , 1937 in Hawaii. The middle child of three, she enjoyed her freedom. Although she and her mother enjoyed each other's

Her father was an army dentist, causing the family to live all over the world. Lowry lived in Pennsylvania, Washington, went to high school in New York, spent three years in Tokyo,
and went to college at Brown University in Rhode Island. Lois Lowry married at the age of nineteen, and traveled around the world with her new
husband, a naval officer. She settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts after living in Florida, California, Connecticut, and South Carolina. After her husband left the navy and received
his diploma from the Harvard School of Law, she moved with her four children to Maine. She went to the University of Southern Maine, and finally achieved her dream of
becoming an author. She now resides in Cambridge, Massachussetts. She spends her weekends in New Hampshire, where she enjoys the wildlife and nature. II. Professional Life
Lowry graduated from the University of Southern Maine, where she raised her four children. She began writing professionally after receiving her degree and completing
graduate school. She writes most of her work from her home in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Lowry has received two Newbury Awards, for her books The Giver and Number the Stars.
Among other awards she has won are the American Library Association Notable Book Award, the Children's Book Award, The National Jewish Book Award, and the Boston Globe Award for Literature. III. Influences When asked about her influences, Lois Lowry replied, "Nothing 'inspired' me to be an author. It was simply what I always wanted to do, from childhood: what I did best, loved
best. If anything inspired me, it was books" (Internet Public Library- Lois Lowry). IV. Works by Lois Lowry Novels
