I.  Biography
Gayle Lynds was born on June 23 in Omaha, Nebraska.  She was raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa and lived on Canning Street.  Her parents are Paul and Marian Hallenbeck and her father still lives at the house on Canning Street.  Lynds graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School (class of 1963) in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  She graduated with a degree in journalism and a minor in social studies from the University of Iowa.  She served as managing editor of the Daily Iowan.  Lynds has changed state legislation because of her newspaper investigative reporting.  Lynds married fellow author Dennis Lynds and has a daughter, Julia Stone, a son, Paul Stone, and two stepdaughters, Deirdre and Kate Lynds.  Lynds has also lived in Phoenix, Arizona and is presently living in Santa Barbara, CA.  When Lynds tried to publish her book, Masquerade, it was rejected because a publisher in New York said, "no woman  could ever have written this."  It was published and she is presently working on her third thriller.  She has also written two nonfiction books and 11 novels.
