I. Biography Jill McCorkle was born July 7, 1958. She was born in Lumberton, North Carolina. She is the daughter of John Wesley, Jr. and Melba Ann McCorkle. She graduated
from Lumberton High School. She received highest honors at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1980, then she went on to get her masters degree at Hollins College. She was first
published in 1984 at the age of 26. McCorkle has won many awards, two of which are the Jesse Render Prize and the Andrew James Purdy Prize.
McCorkle has taught at different schools and colleges. She was a teacher at public schools in Brevard County, and she taught writing at Duke University. She currently teaches at
Harvard University and Bennington College. She has been selected four times by the New York Times Book Review for her fiction. She received the New England Booksellers'
Association award in 1993. Her books have not only been sold in the United States, but in Britain, Sweden, France, and Japan. McCorkle is married and has two children. She lives near Boston, Massachusetts. II. Literary Works

point for lumber and naval supplies. They were floated down the river to the city. Today they are centered on tobacco and other farm products. This city is a halfway point between
