I.  Upbringing and Professional Life

Victor McGlothin was born in South Dallas in the mid-1960s to a young single mother.  He was a misguided teenager whose anger led him into criminal activity.  On many occasions, McGlothin's problems led to police intervention and arrests.  He graduated from high school reading at a sixth grade level.  He knew, however, that he would be able to triumph over his mistakes, and he eventually entered college on an athletic scholarship.  McGlothin taught himself to read to avoid the embarrassment of failing and being sent home. Writing became his passion, and he earned a bachelor's and a master's degree.

For the last five years, McGlothin has worked in the banking industry as a vice president and has been a leader for change in his community.  He is a part of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc., which serves as a role model for young African-American males.  He realizes many young people are in the same situation he was in, and he wishes to set an example of how hard work can pay off.  Victor McGlothin currently lives in Dallas with his wife and two young sons.
