I. Personal and Professional Biography Elisabeth Ogilive was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 20, 1917, the daughter and fourth child of
parents of Scottish ancestry. She and her siblings grew up in Dorchester, Quincy, and Roxbury, Massachusetts, and summered on the Maine Coast.
At the age of 27, in 1944, she wrote her first book, High Tide at Noon, the anchor of the Tide trilogy. Her writing depicts the lives of lobstering families on the Maine coast and Down East life. That setting is prevalent in most of her works including the Bennett's Island series. In addition to Down East works, Elisabeth wrote many young adult novels that were popular from the 1950's to the 1980's.
