I. Professional Life

Denise Vitola resides in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Vitola has been a professional editor for twenty-two years and a "guest lecturer for the Writers Roundtable sponsored by the University of North Carolina where she taught science fiction and fantasy writing from start-to-finish" (The Idea Factory).  She started delivering unique and compelling stories almost a decade ago.   Her short stories have appeared in Amazing Stories Magazine and TSR's fantasy anthology, Realms of Infamy.  Cleverly combining science fiction and mystery, Vitola seeks to update old legends and myths, making them relevant in modern society.

Vitola accomplishes this update in her character Marshal Ty Merrick, a rationalized lycanthrope (a werewolf).  Merrick struggles with her unusual illness while tracking killers in a dark, crime filled future.  The second book in the Ty Merrick series, Opalite Moon, was a 1998 nominee for the Philip K. Dick Award for Excellence in Science Fiction.  Hyperfilms, Inc. of Universal City, California, recently optioned Vitola's Ty Merrick Series for television production.

II.  The Idea Factory

Vitola started The Idea Factory to help aspiring novelists develop their best writing style, and more importantly, produce a product that will sell in today's fiction market.  Vitola offers a unique experience to her students that cannot be found anywhere else.  The Idea Factory aims to make a writing apprenticeship fun and interesting at a reasonable price.  Vitola edits manuscripts and gives expert advice on how to improve writing.  She also gives a variety of writing and reading assignments to enhance creativity and build knowledge about the publishing industry.
