San Pedro High School in San Pedro, California I. Biography Peter Warren was born to Sam and Anne Warren on March 26, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York. It was here in Brooklyn that Warren became interested in journalism. During the 1965 fall semester of Mr. Seleckmans' 11th grade journalism class, Warren first realized his love for journalism. He soon became involved with school newspaper and his interest in journalism continued into college. Warren attended Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Here Warren did not major in Journalism (Brown University not offering it) but majored in American History and taking other classes such as English Literature and Political Science. Warren was also involved with the schools' daily newspaper, which would be helpful to him later in life. After graduating from Brown University, Warren was unsure as to the direction he wanted his life to follow. So, he decided to do what he knew best and he began working as a journalist for the Associated Press in New York City in 1972. From the Associated Press, Warren went to work for the Providence Journal in Rhode Island, then in 1983 he was offered a job by the Los Angeles Times which he accepted. Warren began work for the Los Angeles Times as a political writer. He wrote articles on a wide variety of topics including local politicians and elections. Perhaps Warren's most notable story was that on the 1996 State Assembly elections for Orange County between Robert Dornan and Loreta Sanchez. In this story Warren uncovered the truth that non-citizens voted for Sanchez who ended up winning the election. II. Current Work Now Warren is a medical writer for the Los Angeles Times and is currently working on a story about the rising trend of teenage girls receiving breast implants. Warren has also written many stories on various rock climbers in Yosemite National Park. Warren would love to live in Yosemite, but concedes that earning a suitable living in that area is too difficult. Warren would also like to write a book at some point in his life. At the present time, he feels that taking the time to write a book would be selfish. Warren would much rather spend what little free time he has with his wife, Melanie, and daughters, Mollie and Roselyn. But, in the future, writing a book is definitely something Warren would like to do. This essay was submitted by a student of Kathy Honda Stein, a teacher at San Pedro High School in California. |
