The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) is proud to be a partner in developing ExxonMobil Masterpiece Theatre's AMERICAN COLLECTION.

This opportunity invites America's English teachers to bring their expertise to a project with the power to spark a nationwide conversation around American literature.  By making great literature accessible, all students will have the opportunity to explore the power of story, experiencing its ability to inform the heart, develop character, and enrich our understanding of ourselves and others. What's more, discussing universal themes of discovery, joy, and great sadness can forge a fresh link between classroom and family conversations.  And the collaboration among film makers and teachers introduces an unprecedented opportunity for exploring the strategies and techniques of effective communication in print and on film— a vital skill for informed citizenship in a media-laden society.
